McArthur holds off Guilford to finish 3-1

ROCKFORD - Florida's Hollywood McArthur had too much size inside for Guilford, knocking off the Vikings, 72-60, in Guilford's season opener.

For McArthur, it was the fourth and final game of its first trip to the 205 Tip-Off Classic. The Mustangs finished the tournament 3-1.

McArthur looked to end this game early, racing out to a 30-13 lead midway through the second quarter. Nick Phillips though got hot in the second quarter, hitting three 3-point shots to bring Guilford to within 33-29 at halftime.

That was as close as Guilford would get. McArthur, which started four players 6-4 or taller while the Vikings have no one taller than 6-3, outscored Guilford 23-12 in the third quarter and were never seriously threatened in the fourth.

Jamari Belvin, a 6-5 senior guard, led the Mustangs with 23 points. Kheron Millwood scored 16 and Ralph Bissainthe added 14.

Phillips ended up with seven 3-pointers for Guilford on his way to a tournament high 26 points. Dorian Jones chipped in 12 and Raheem Gregg added 10.
