Auburn shooting too much for Madison West

ROCKFORD - A barrage of late three-point shots helped Rockford Auburn turn a close game into a route as the Knights closed out the 205 Tip-Off Classic with a 79-60 win over Madison West.

The Regents, who lost both their Tip-Off tournment games, hung with Auburn for 2 1/2 quarters, trailing just 44-41 midway through the third quarter. Auburn, which struggled with its shooting in the second half of the Elgin Larkin game and all throughout its game against Indianapolis Pike, finally came alive. The Knights outscored Madison West 35-19 the rest of the way to finish the tournament at 3-1 for the second straight year.

Auburn hit 14 three-point shots to Madison West's six. Terry Ford led the way with seven treys to finish with 25 points. Austin Sturlin hit five three-points and finished with 17. Sturlin had this curious statistic, he scored 38 points in four tournament games, hitting 12 three-point shots, two free throws and zero two-point field goals. Justin Robinson chipped in 16 for Auburn, which hosts Belvidere Wednesday to open NIC-10 conference play.

Simeon Parker led the Regents with 17 points, Kishawn Shanklin scored 15 and Terrell Carey, a highly sought after football recruit as a defensive back/wide receiver, added 13.
