Larkin's Shaw, Lynch overpower McArthur

ROCKFORD - Elgin Larkin built an early lead and was never in trouble in beating McArthur of Hollywood, Florida, in Tuesday night's first game at East High.

Jalen Shaw, Larkin's 6-foot-11 center who was a first team all-tournament selection in last year's RPS205 Tip-Off Classic, scored 21 points to lead the Royals. Shaw is now the career leader in 205 Tip-Off Classic scoring. The Royals also got 20 points from Anthony Lynch. Shaw's 21 included three slam-dunks in the first half as Larkin built a 39-21 halftime lead. At one point, Larkin had a 20-point advantage at 32-12.

McArthur, which lost for the second straight night, managed to creep to within nine points at 45-36 with 2:10 left in the third quarter, but three straight three-pointers by Kindrel Morris and a pair by Pierre Black helped to push the Royals' lead to 55-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Larkin built the lead to 64-44 only to see McArthur come within 11 (72-61) before time ran out.

Nicholas Choi led McArthur with 12 points. Javier Zapata chipped in 11 points for the Mustangs.
