Furious East rally falls short as Bay View goes 2-0 in Tip-Off Classic

Milwaukee Bay View ended its stay in the RPS205 Tip-Off Classic with a 2-0 record after hanging on to beat East in the second of four games in the E-Rabs gym Wednesday.

Wisconsin schools, like some in other states, are allowed to play only two games in holiday tournaments. The Redcats defeated Belvidere on Tuesday night in their other game.

Bay View outscored East 26-7 in the second quarter to take a 39-23 halftime lead, but the second half belonged to the E-Rabs, who fell to 0-2. East outscored Bay View 26-13 in the third quarter and 18-17 in the fourth period but could never take the lead or even forge a tie, despite having several opportunities to do so.

Justin Robinson, a transfer from Auburn, led the second-half charge with 11 of his team-high 20 points. Chris Burnell scored nine points in the second half and Sha'den Clanton, DeVontae Sims and Scott Gowan each scored eight second-half points.

Clanton, a transfer from Guilford, scored 14 points, Gowan 12, Burnell 11 and Sims 10.

Bay View was helped by the debut of Breontae Hunt. Hunt averaged 19.5 points in his two Tip-Off Classic games in 2016 but did not play in the season opener last night against Belvidere. He poured in 25 points. Kevin Cook added 18 points for the Redcats, while Kaleel McCray and Isiaiah Wright had 11 each.
