Jefferson moves to 2-0 on last-second bucket

ROCKFORD - Rockford Jefferson won its ninth straight 205 Tip-Off Classic game on a last-second layup by senior guard Nigel Posley.


The layup came with 2.3 seconds left and made the J-Hawks a 63-61 winner over North Chicago.

The game was tight throughout. The Warhawks led by one after the first quarter and four at halftime. The score was tied at 53 when a North Chicago player got a technical foul. Posley made four straight free throws.

The Warhawks rallied and tied the game at 61 with nine seconds left on a tip-in by Andre Illidge Jr., setting up the heroics by Posley.

Posley led Jefferson with 18 points. Randy Johnson, a sophomore center, had 16, and La'Shawn Gathright, a freshman guard, had 14. Nasir Za Kai Young led the Warhawks with 20 points.
