Guilford carves up Elgin Larkin

ROCKFORD - The Guilford Vikings picked up their first win with new coach Antonio Maestranzi by dominating Elgin Larkin, 62-50, at Jefferson High School.

Guilford led by seven points after the first quarter, 15 at halftime and 16 at the end of three.

It was a balanced effort. Sam Stewart led with 12 points, Nick Stadelman added 11 and four others scored six points or more.

Elgin Larkin was making its season debut. The Royals finished fourth in the IHSA Class 4A tournament last year, but four of their five starters graduated. Pierre Black, the lone returning starter, led Larkin with 17 points.
