Notes:
  • Whitney Young is the defending Class 4A IHSA State Champion. The Dolphins beat Chicago Simeon 60-50 in the title game and finished 27-5.
  • Three starters return from the state championship team in seniors Javon Freeman, Justin Boyd and Xavier Castaneda. The Dolphins also have young talent they’ll turn to in sophomores Tyler Beard and Elliott Sieger.
  • This is Slaughter’s 13th season as head coach. His teams have won a regional title every year but his first.
  • The Dolphins have won three state titles under Slaughter – 2009, 2014 and 2017 – and also finished second in 2010.
  • This is Whitney Young’s first trip to the Tip-Off Classic.
